Mobility through Kettlebells

As one of my favorite ways to work out is with kettlebells, I was intrigued by an article I just came across that is an interview with John Kalil, a 73-year-old RKC (Russian Kettlebell Certified)-certified instructor of kettlebells. The article can be accessed here.

In this interview, he talks about how training with kettlebells has given him flexibility and mobility–certainly important attributes for the over-50 generation! Kalil teaches about 7 classes a week and conducts personal training. This is what I like to see from a 73-year-old. 🙂

Kettlebells come in a wide range of weights–as little as 5 lbs. So if you’ve never trained with kettlebells before, don’t be intimidated in thinking that you have to start with heavy weights.

Kalil talks about the importance of training the glutes, and how the hips and other body parts depend on strong glutes. One of his favorite exercises is the burpee. (To see three variations of kettlebell burpees demonstrated on YouTube, check out the following video.)

It’s a really good article and worth checking out for inspiration–here’s the link again. Kettlebells offer a great way to work out–just be sure to follow good technique so that you can gain maximum benefit and avoid injuries.
