Beyond 50 Health

Obviously with a name of Beyond50Health.com, this site is all about health and wellness for those of us beyond the age of 50 (not that these principles don’t apply to those younger than 50!). I did a google search for the keyword “beyond 50 health” to see if we were ranking at all on Google for search results, and I found that this site is on page 3 for the keyword, although our facebook page has an entry on page 1. Obviously, I would like for this site to eventually reach page 1 of google’s search results, but in the meantime I thought it would be interesting to profile some other sites that are ranking for that term.

Dr. Henry S. Lodge, M.D., has a column on WebMD, “Vitality at 50 and Beyond,” that is currently in the top position of search results. There are discussions on topics such as “How often should I exercise?” in which Dr. Lodge gives a short introduction while WebMD moderates the ensuing discussion. The introductions are not particularly in-depth, but it is often informative to see what respondents have to say about their own experiences.

In the number two spot is the article, “Exercise: Do’s and Don’ts Beyond Age 50,” hosted by the Cleveland Clinic. The article seems rather limited, though, as it is primarily addressed to those who are not currently active in working out. Also, I don’t think most 50-year-olds would agree with the label of being called a senior. I do like the suggestion of studying Tai Chi if you have any concerns about balance.

In the third spot is “Beyond 50.09 Chronic Care: A Call to Action for Health Reform,” from AARP, having to do with public policy and healthcare. There is a report that can be downloaded from the site, which details survey results regarding topics such as care coordination and patient engagement.

Next up is an article from Men’s Health, “Tips for Your 50s and Beyond.” This article stresses the importance of regular exercise and the anti-aging effects of aerobic and weight-lifting exercises, as well as the positive effects of ensuring a sufficiently high level of omega-3 fatty acids.

In the fifth spot is BetterBeyond50.com, a promotional site by Melissa Koerner that is geared toward women who are approaching the age of 50.

As we continue to build this site with more and more material about living a vibrant life once we pass the age of 50, I hope that we are able to have a positive impact on the lives of others. If there are any particular topics you would like to see more coverage of, please let us know! And please let us know how you’re doing in your own practices. 🙂
